BRITISH ACADEMY CONFERENCE ON JUDICIAL INDEPENDENCE

 

A two-day Conference on “Challenges to Judicial Independence in Times of Crisis was held on 8&9 March 2018 at the British Academy, London.  This interdisciplinary conference seeked to situate contemporary challenges to judicial independence in their legal, philosophical, sociopolitical, comparative and historical contexts.

The conference, which  brought together academic scholars, judges, politicians, third sector experts and legal professionals. asked what core shared democratic values judicial independence seeks to protect, and how can threats to that independence be protected against.

Ilias Anagnostopoulos spoke at the Conference on “Judicial independence in extradition and asylum proceedings” focusing on the highly topical “Eight Turkish Soldiers Case” which is on-going in Greece.
