COURT OF APPEAL ATHENS ACQUITS STOCK EXCHANGE BROKER ON CHARGES OF FRAUD

The Five-Member Court of Appeal Athens delivered on September 15, 2017, a much noted unanimous acquittal judgment in a case of a well known Athens Stock Exchange broker on charges of fraud.

The broker had been convicted to a multiyear prison term by the first instance court for fraud against a client, who suffered from bipolar disorder and was allegedly misled by the broker to invest many million euros in high-risk securities resulting in his losing the biggest part of the invested funds.

After a lengthy procedure the Appeal Court found that the broker had no knowledge of the client’s emotional disorder and did not intend to defraud him.

Ilias Anagnostopoulos and Ioanna Maneta advised and represented the broker throughout the appellate proceedings.
