21 Jun Greek-Israeli businessman cleared from perjury charges
An Athens criminal court returned an acquittal verdict on 17.6.2026 for a prominent Greek-Israeli businessman on charges of perjury, slander, and breach of personal data. The defendant had filed a criminal complaint against a well-known investigative Greek journalist, claiming that she conspired with a former minister and prosecutors to falsely accuse him of tax fraud and money laundering. Following the dismissal of the businessman’s complaint for lack of evidence, the journalist filed a criminal complaint against him, arguing that he maliciously accused her of crimes she had never committed. The Court ruled that the businessman did not act in bad faith in exercising his right to have access to a court.
