PATRAS COURT REJECTS U.S. EXTRADITION REQUEST

On 3.5.2023 Patras Court of Appeal sitting as a first instance extradition chamber issued a decision rejecting an extradition request from the U.S. against a Romanian citizen, who had been arrested in Patras, Greece, on charges of fraud against the US, wire fraud, and money laundering following an arrest warrant issued by the United States District Court for the Southern District of Florida. The Court ruled that the requesting State failed to provide sufficient evidence in relation to the above charges. The Patras Prosecutor filed an appeal against the decision which will be heard by Areios Pagos, Greece’s highest court.

Ilias Anagnostopoulos and Alexandros Tsagkalidis, as well as Andreas Regklis (of Patras Bar) advised and represented the extraditee in the respective proceedings.
