In a much noted decision of 6.9.2019 the Court of Appeal Athens sitting as a first instance court rejected a UK European Arrest Warrant against a well-known Greek businessman on charges of fraud against Barclays and false financial statements in relation to companies traded in London’s Alternative Investment Market. His extradition was sought by the Financial Conduct Authority.

The Court held that the EAW shall be rejected on prescription and territoriality grounds.
