COURT OF APPEAL CLEARS PROMINENT BUSINESSMAN FROM BRIBERY CHARGES

COURT OF APPEAL CLEARS PROMINENT BUSINESSMAN FROM BRIBERY CHARGES

In a much noted unanimous judgment the Five-Member Court of Appeal Athens acquitted on 27 May 2021 Mr L, a prominent Greek businessman who is internationally active in various industries, on charges of bribery and money laundering in relation to a military equipment contract between the Hellenic Ministry of Defence and a joint venture led by Ericsson Microwave Systems.

The Court found no sufficient evidence in support of the charges and quashed a judgment of the first instance court, by which Mr L, a former Secretary of the MoD and a British financial intermediary had been convicted to multiyear sentences. By the same judgment the conviction of  a former commercial agent and a former Swiss bank employee has been upheld.

Ilias Anagnostopoulos and Alexandros Tsagkalidis advised and represented Mr L at the appellate proceedings.
